About Me
Hi, I’m Josh.
As an elementary music school teacher, a dedicated instructor of both community and private guitar lessons, and a passionate musician deeply committed to honing my craft, I not only share the joy of music with young learners but also engage in an avid personal practice and collaborative musical experiences to continuously improve and have fun.
I teach music because the sheer joy of sharing my musical passion with others is incredibly rewarding to me. Teaching music allows me to tap into my strengths—I'm naturally patient, kind, and caring, qualities that inspire confidence in my students. What sets music apart from other subjects like math, history, or reading is its real-time nature. In those subjects, you practice applying formulas, study facts, or read about people and events, often assessed on paper with knowledge that stays with you. Music, on the other hand, demands active engagement and recreation of art. The ability to produce music is a perishable skill, making it unique; you can't fake musical competence. It's demonstrated in real-time, and musicians must bring the music with them, which is what truly draws me to it.
Beyond my skill set, learning an instrument has taught me invaluable life lessons. It revealed the effort needed to excel and the significance of having something to practice. It showed me that practice is indeed something special. Many of life's lessons were first learned on my instrument. As a child, I often struggled with focusing and sitting still, occasionally unsettling teachers and caregivers. However, when I was immersed in learning guitar or drums, I found a sense of focus and centeredness. It was during rehearsals, practices, and performances that I realized the true payoff of dedicated practice.
